Glaucoma
Glaucoma is not strictly an age-related disease. Although more rare, it can also strike at infancy. It is believed to be caused mostly through heredity and aging. Because of increased intraocular pressure, vision loss is peripheral and usually goes unnoticed. With medication glaucoma is manageable. Open angle and acute are the most common types although there are many. Open angle glaucoma occurs when drainage canals become blocked. Acute or angle closure is different because the pressure increases quickly. It is recommended to be tested regularly for glaucoma.
